Facebook’s Hackathon is a huge coding marathon that brings together the best developers from across the UK to experiment and innovate. It plays a key role in the company’s development as both a platform and a business, but – just as importantly – it’s about having a LOT of fun.
We were briefed to make the 2018 Hackathon its best-ever – from the venue, to the theme, to the interactions that would keep the hackers entertained, and everything in between.
Inspired by the transformative impact of technology, we created HACKERVISION – an immersive celebration of television, the original technological leap that transformed society. We chose the birthplace of television, Alexandra Palace, where just like today’s hackers the BBC’s trailblazing technicians constantly broke boundaries, as the venue for this show stopping event and set about creating a “Hack” to remember.
Greeted by a giant TV screen entrance, HACKERVISION guests literally stepped into the world of television, with sets from famous entertainment shows hosting areas to work, hack, eat and play. A Friends-inspired café, an Art Attack creative space, a Crystal Maze-style game zone and a Game of Thrones throne room (just because), all set around a giant retro TV that formed the central stage area hosting presentations from key speakers and fellow hackers. Nostalgic, inspirational and fun.
“This is the best Hack I’ve ever been to.” – Facebook Hacker
Hundreds of happy hackers, and one very happy Experience client.
